sympathy for the Mandelas, excitment in RSA

Very sorry to read this morning that Mr. Mandela will miss the opening game today because of a death in the family. Mr. Mandela, himself almost 92 (July 18th) and one of the most famous survivors of the 20th century, lost a 13 year old great granddaughter. Apparently she was killed in a car accident in Soweto. I can fully imagine that the festivities were intense on World Cup Eve and that the roads were made dangerous by the excitement and alcohol. What a pity.
